Do I need any prior climbing or ice experience?
No! We welcome first-timers and experienced climbers alike. Your guide will tailor the day to your level of ability, fitness, and skill.
What gear do I need to bring?
We provide all technical gear, including boots, crampons, tools, and helmets. Dress warm and bring snacks. We will provide you with a gear list.
Can I use my own gear?
Yes! You are welcome to use any gear you have. Your guide will inspect it prior to use.
How long is a typical day?
Most trips run 6–8 hours. You’ll get plenty of time on the ice and can expect a relaxed but active pace.
Where do trips meet?
Trips meet in Salt Lake City with a short drive to Big or Little Cottonwood, or Provo Canyon, depending on conditions.
What if the ice conditions are poor?
We constantly monitor conditions and will reschedule or adjust the location if needed to ensure safety and quality climbing. If conditions dictate and you can’t climb, you don’t pay.
When is the best time for ice climbing near Salt Lake City (Big & Little Cottonwood, Provo Canyon)?
Prime season is December through February, with year-to-year swings based on freeze–thaw cycles and storms. Little Cottonwood typically comes in mid-December to late February, while Provo Canyon often has the highest concentration of climbable ice in the SLC/Utah County area. Guides watch conditions daily and choose venues accordingly.
